We've been learning how to demolish strongholds and take every thought captive using God's divine power. Now we'll look at how God further illustrates these truths in His Word.
In the book of Joshua, we read of the many battles the Israelites fought to conquer the land the Lord had given to them.
Today, let's notice one battle in particular between Israel and the northern kings, described in Joshua 11. These northern kings banded together to fight the Israelites; the Bible states that they fielded "a huge army, as numerous as the sand on the seashore."
They were a formidable foe—but God told Joshua: "Do not be afraid... I will hand them over to you." So Joshua and the Israelites went out in battle against the huge army of the northern kings.
And Joshua 11:12 states that "Joshua took all these royal cities (where those kings had lived) and put them to the sword. He totally destroyed them as he had been commanded." Joshua and his people totally annihilated that huge army. They were victorious because the Lord fought for them!

Please describe how this story applies to our struggle with sexual sin. Find as many parallels as you can.
Fellow soldiers, pornographic images, as I'm sure you know by now, are a formidable foe. They can be like a huge army that is much stronger than we are.
And yet, Scripture tells us that we are to demolish them, destroy them, annihilate them. Can you see why this requires divine power?
And we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5
Let's look at another illustration.
In the Old Testament, the nation of Israel was commanded to dislodge every nation that existed in the Promised Land. They had success pulling down the strongholds of those nations, and dislodged most of them.
However, a few nations were very powerful and very stubborn, and the Israelites were unable to demolish them. Notice what the Israelite nation did with those nations:
All the people left from the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites...all whom the Israelites could not exterminate - these Solomon conscripted for his slave labor force.1 Kings 9:20-21

According to the above verses, what did King Solomon do with the nations the Israelites were unable to exterminate?
Friend, there might be some thoughts so powerful that we aren't able to keep them from infiltrating our minds, especially in the first couple of months after we have stopped viewing porn.
But if we do not view any more porn, and we seek the Lord, eventually we will have no thoughts that overtake us as they previously did. The Israelites were told to completely demolish the enemy. They wiped out enough of the enemy to inhabit the land, but got tired of fighting and simply got used to the remaining enemy strongholds.
They reasoned that "Hey, we don't need to wipe these guys out; we'll use them as our slaves." They justified their disobedience by keeping the enemy as slaves. However, it was still disobedience, because God had told them to wipe outall of their enemies.
In the same way, the thoughts we don't demolish are still there. Consider this: in the Israelites' case, did those slaves stay enslaved, or did they eventually rise up and cause problems?
Wouldn't it have been better for the Israelites to completely wipe out the enemy? Total annihilation is the only answer!
Next, consider this powerful verse:
If you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall come about that those whom you let remain of them will become as pricks in your eyes and as thorns in your sides and they shall trouble you in the land where you live. Numbers 33:55
Those images we think aren't too bad? Those things we justify and say, "Hey, in comparison to where I was, this is nothing?"
These are the very areas that hold great potential for trouble in our lives. "...they shall trouble you in the land where you live." Annihilate!
Friend, before we move on, we should remind ourselves that we are in a very serious battle. This can't be taken lightly. If we truly want to win the battle, we must regularly cry out to God for victory, depend on Him for power, and thank Him each time we win.
If you have been winning battles for the past 34 days, then rejoice with Paul, who said, "I thankChrist Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength..." (1 Timothy 1:12).
Jesus Christ gave the strength to Paul, and Jesus must give us strength as well, if we are to win the battle over sin. Will you pray right now and ask God to give you strength?
Craig wrote, "Pornography is a lot bigger than I am, and alone, there is no way that I could do battle against it. Without God, I am a traitor.
I would and have made peace with the kings, only God's grace has brought me back to where I am ready to do battle against sin."
Dennis wrote, "I have been guilty of being soft on my enemy, and allowing him to gain a stronghold inside my defense perimeter.
I have also sought to make peace with the enemy of my soul, rather than seek to totally destroy him.
In addition, when the enemy promised to make peace, I found that he really had an innumerable army arrayed against me, ready to destroy me."
Steve wrote, "The army of the northern kings was huge. God told Joshua to destroy them. In order to move into the Promised Land (a porn-free life), the tenants (porn) have to move out, so I can get in.
They do not want to leave (strongholds). They must be defeated (torn down). They have a huge army, and they will do anything to hold on to what they have.
But, God has promised that He will hand them over to me. In order to defeat them, I need to go into battle. Through God's power, I will be victorious, and the current tenants will be totally annihilated!
No more porn! Solomon made the remaining tenants slaves. Although I cannot undo the fact that I have looked at porn, I can now use it to God's service." This
story is teaching me to not be afraid of the battle because God will hand the enemy (porn) over to me. So I can go and fight, and not be afraid, because sin will be annihilated."
Next, please read the following quote by Oswald Chambers and provide your thoughts on it below:
"Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things. Isaiah 40:26. The people of God in Isaiah's day had starved their imagination by looking on the face of idols, and Isaiah made them look up at the heavens; that is, he made them begin to use their imagination aright.
"The test of spiritual concentration is bringing the imagination into captivity. Is your imagination looking on the face of an idol? Is the idol yourself? Your work?
Your conception of what a worker should be? Your experience of salvation and sanctification? Then your imagination of God is starved, and when you are up against difficulties you have no power, you can only endure in darkness.
If your imagination is starved, do not look back to your own experience; it is God Whom you need. Go right out of yourself, away from the face of your idols, away from everything that has been starving your imagination.
Rouse yourself, take the gibe that Isaiah gave the people, and deliberately turn your imagination to God." Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest

"Above all, we must be especially alert against the beginnings of temptation, for the enemy is more easily conquered if he is refused admittance to the mind and is met beyond the threshold when he knocks.
"Someone has said very aptly: Resist the beginnings; remedies come too late, when by long delay the evil has gained strength. First, a mere thought comes to mind, then strong imagination, followed by pleasure, evil delight, and consent.
Thus, because he is not resisted in the beginning, Satan gains full entry. And the longer a man delays in resisting, so much the weaker does he become each day, while the strength of the enemy grows against him." Thomas a Kempis, The Imitation of Christ
Thomas a Kempis, The Imitation of Christ

John wrote, "Joshua's battle was just like my own. He faced insurmountable odds. There was no physical way that Israel could defeat the northern kings' armies. There is no way that I can defeat the sin of pornography in my life. But wait. Great words, aren't they?
But wait. There is One, that One who holds the universe in the palm of His hand. He fights for me. His actions are the words of His mouth. He has said in His love, mercy, and grace that He would never forsake me. He, this One, fights for me. Just as He, this One, fought for Israel."

When you go to war against your enemies, the Lord will help you defeat them so that you will take them captive. Deuteronomy 21:10
6 Now the men of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know what the LORD said to Moses the man of God at Kadesh Barnea about you and me.
7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh Barnea to explore the land. And I brought him back a report according to my convictions,
8 but my brothers who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt with fear. I, however, followed the LORD my God wholeheartedly.
9 So on that day Moses swore to me, "The land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance and that of your children forever, because you have followed the LORD my God wholeheartedly."
10 "Now then, just as the LORD promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the desert. So here I am today, eighty-five years old!
11 I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I'm just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. Joshua 14:6-11
45 David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
46 This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I'll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.
47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give all of you into our hands. 1 Samuel 17:45-47
46 今日耶和华必将你交在我手里。我必杀你,斩你的头,又将非利士军兵的尸首给空中的飞鸟、地上的野兽吃,使普天下的人都知道以色列中有神;
To clarify what the first accountability question means, we have included the following explanation.
What does "feasting" mean?"Feasting" is more than just reading the Bible; it is a term to express the nourishing of our souls in Jesus Christ.
It means that we are sitting at the feet of Jesus, hearing His Word and believing it, for the purpose of implementing the truths into our lives. It means we are receiving spiritual nourishment and we are delighting our souls in His grace and truth.
This may be done in reading our Bibles, hearing God's Word preached, interacting with others in the Scriptures, and studying through this course, etc. This definition is at least a start; further explanation is included in the lessons.
Have you been feasting on God's word?
Yes是 No 否
If so, when was the last time you feasted? And how? In other words, how did you enjoy God? Reading? Prayer? Worship? Fellowship? Witnessing?
These next, tough, accountability questions apply to the entire period since you did your last lesson.
Were you free from pornography since you did the last lesson?

Were you free from self-gratification since you did the last lesson?
Yes是 No 否
Were you free from sexual immorality since you did the last lesson?
Yes是 No否
