Friend, did you know that it is biblical to live for pleasure? In fact, we are commanded to live for pleasure! We are to be "Christian hedonists," as John Piper states in his book Desiring God.
It seems that some people in the Christian world are not happy until they are miserable— but we're not doomed to this type of existence. The biblical principles in today's lesson might just change your entire outlook on life, as they have mine.
I recently searched for "sexual addiction" on the Internet to see what solutions the "experts" offer. Most of it is a joyless list of things to do in order to change your behavior.
For instance: when hit with temptation, visualize a policeman running up to you with a big red stop sign and handcuffs. Picture an emotionally charged moment, as the death of a parent or the birth of a child, to create an emotional pull away from the temptation.
Or place a rubber band on your wrist and snap it hard every time you are tempted. This associates temptation with pain, supposedly causing you to avoid the temptation in the future.
How sad and lifeless, how ineffective are the cures of the world! What about the heart? Jesus said lust is a heart problem (Matthew 15:18); no snap of the wrist or thoughts of policeman will change my heart.
Only Jesus can motivate my heart with such love that I can't possibly think of going back to pornography or adultery. Christ delights the soul and stirs the affections—it'spleasaurable to live in Him!
Would I prefer a cop with a red stop sign and handcuffs, or a Savior who loves my heart? It's not a difficult choice!
We are called to live for pleasure in God!
It is a bad world, an incredibly bad world. But I have discovered in the midst of it a quiet and holy people who have learned a great secret.
They have found a joy that is a thousand times better than any pleasure of our sinful life. They are despised and persecuted, but they care not.
They are masters of their souls. They have overcome the world. These people are the Christians—and I am one of them. Saint Cyprian (200-258)
(Saint Cyprian)(200-258)
Friend, this is our calling: to find joy in Christ, which is a thousand times better than any sinful pleasure. Sometimes I find it hard to believe I spent so long following the "pleasures of sin" in sexual immorality, when there was Someone "a thousand times better" waiting for me.
The ongoing experience of a relationship with Jesus Christ keeps me from wanting to return to my life of sin. I can't get enough of Jesus, who longs to fill me with all the fullness of God!
In this lesson, we will examine the sheer pleasure available in God. If you open your heart to God, you'll live in pleasure for the rest of your life and throughout all eternity.

And seize the pleasures of the present day;
要及时行乐;
Live while you live, the sacred preacher cries,
And give to God each moment as it flies;
Lord, in my view let both united be;
主啊,在我看来,两者要合一;

Friend, there is exquisite joy and pleasure to be found in Jesus Christ. This must be experienced to be understood, because words fall far short of the reality. How wonderful to trade the temporary "pleasures of sin" for an eternity of pleasure with Christ!
With Him is fullness of joy, overflowing pleasure, and ongoing delight. Will you seek your pleasure in Jesus Christ? Once you taste the joy found in Him, you won't want to go back to the temporary pleasures of pornography and impurity.

To clarify what the first accountability question means, we have included the following explanation.
What does "feasting" mean?
"Feasting" is more than just reading the Bible; it is a term to express the nourishing of our souls in Jesus Christ.
It means that we are sitting at the feet of Jesus, hearing His Word and believing it, for the purpose of implementing the truths into our lives. It means we are receiving spiritual nourishment and we are delighting our souls in His grace and truth.
This may be done in reading our Bibles, hearing God's Word preached, interacting with others in the Scriptures, and studying through this course, etc. This definition is at least a start; further explanation is included in the lessons.
Have you been feasting on God's word?
Yes是 No 否
If so, when was the last time you feasted? And how? In other words, how did you enjoy God? Reading? Prayer? Worship? Fellowship? Witnessing?
These next, tough, accountability questions apply to the entire period since you did your last lesson.
Were you free from pornography since you did the last lesson?
Yes是 No否
Were you free from self-gratification since you did the last lesson?
Yes是 No 否
Were you free from sexual immorality since you did the last lesson?
Yes是 No否
If you answered "no" to any of the above questions, tell us what led to your fall. If you answered "yes" to the above questions, you may use this area for questions or additional comments.
